31st July launch #TheGD31July

A year ago, the Zimbabwean people from all walks of lives (except the
diasporans and youth who were denied the chance) queued up at
thousands of polling stations as early as 0400hrs.

The sole aim was to cast the ballot that would determine the nation's
future 5 years.
The did was done amid a general perception that Zimbabwe was ready for change.

A year later, we still carry that perception and we still believe in
change but we are faced with the reality that change has evaded us.
The 31st July vote of 2013 was supposedly nikuved and stolen right
from under our nose.
However, this plebiscite was a culmination of a series of events and
political manoeuvres by individuals and families that found themselves
entangled in politics.

It is these hidden personal stories that are yet to be told.

As Open Minds Publications, however, we went beyond the polling
station to unearth these hidden stories that led to this

After almost a year, we present to you Zimbabwe's story in a
fast-paced drama highlighting how a family and their associates went
about life in the lead to 31st July.

We present to you the Marata family of baJoshua and his siblings
Tambu, Freedom, Janet, and Tom forming alliances with Danny an family
friend and aspiring MP.
We will also explain why Lucinda a widowed mother of 2 with no
interest in politics suddenly becomes an activist.
We will understand why Joshua Jnr a youth once enthusiastic about
politics, begins to shy away.

#TheGD31July is here

Mandela Day and the Freedom of humanity

This marks the first celebration of Nelson Mandela's after he passed on.

We remember the contribution made by Madiba in freeing humanity from
the bondage of hatred and racial discrimination.
We celebrate the heroics of Mandela in his fight to break down the
barriers that divided humanity.

In Madiba we see true Pan-Africanism. We see true humanity and we
witness unparalleled selflessness.

Long live Madiba

You think Brazil was a disappointment? Here's a GREATer Disappointment. [20days] to go.

From a comfy couch surrounded by friends, we watched as the Germans
destroyed Brazil.
When the World Cup started, I was supporting Italy, the team full of
promise but never deliverying (blame it on Balotelli).

This time I watched as a neutral as Brazil fell in a record breaking 7
- 1 defeat.
It was disappointment for the host nation and my friends who are crazy
about Neymar.

What the Brazilian nation felt, is nowhere compared to what felt on 31st July.
Just as the Brazilians expected a close contest, we in Zimbabwe were
expecting to take the plebiscite to the wire.

Brazilians will mark the day of their defeat and use it as a reminder
that football is for everyone. Nobody will die or starve because
Brazil lost in a semi-final but they will move on and start afresh.
That's unlike us.

31st July 2013 was a disappointment and a year later we are still
feeling the disappointment.
Inflation has turned into deflation, forcing companies to shut down
people losing jobs in the process.
Corruption continues unabated yet they claim we have an
anti-corruption commission.
Power cuts, burst sewer systems, etc are characteristic of Zimbabwe a
year after an election.

We are more than contestants and the electorate, we are human and we
feel the pain our politics goes bad.

Coming on 31st July
